things have finally turned around in the studio! getting back into a good rhythm, happy with the direction in which things are developing! unfortunately these pictures don't show how vibrant the colours are in person, but here's a sneak peak at one of the things I'm working on. falling in love with colour again.

screenprinted this yesterday, still have 3 more layers to go. making a lot, a lot of work in the studio at the moment which I'll share soon!  5 weeks left of the semester and then my sabbatical begins!!!

meilen spring preview

 

some of what we've been working on recently. 

So much has happened in the past couple of months and I think I just needed to soak it all up and take some time away from this space. The more I trust my intuition and follow my heart, the better things seem to turn out. I'm excited to share more soon, but for now some photos. 

Also, I recently saw the documentary Half the Sky which I highly recommend to anyone reading this. And if you're in Toronto, be sure to check out Stefan Sagmeister's Happy Show running until march 3rd at the Design Exchange. I haven't been able to get it out of my mind since seeing it, and have really been trying to integrate a lot of those experiences into daily practices.

nano publication launch party

My nano publishing class has been working on a publication since returning from North Adams, Mass. to see the OH, CANADA exhibit at MASS MoCA. Responding to the current exhibition, OH, CANADA and its curatorial enthusiasm for the Great White North, we created The Justin Beaver Schoolhouse. In this project we played with myths and ideas about Canadian-ness, engaging museum visitors in a variety of activities that gently educated and stimulated discussion around issues of identity. 

Our publication launch is this Thursday November 29th, 10pm - 2am at The Beaver (of course) 1129 Queen St. West, Toronto. All are welcome!

experiment

Happy to see myself letting go and experimenting a little. 

It's been such a strange semester - I feel so detached from my practice at the moment, seeing more and more that my environment at school is not really at all what I want. Trying to find a way to stay connected to what I want to be doing while meeting the requirements for what I have to be doing. Strange balance at the moment, and I am really looking forward to taking a step back. 

Lots of work to do in the next week to prepare for final crits and trying to stay as positive as possible about ending this semester on a good note. 

So, let's see where this goes.
